Procedures require Indian Nationals

The laid down procedures require Indian nationals proceeding abroad to invariably get their documents such as Educational Certificates, Mark Lists, Marriage Certificate, Birth Certificate or any other documents issued in India, authenticated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), New Delhi or its Branch Secretariats, in India. Indian nationals travelling to Ethiopia are also required to follow the same procedure of getting their original documents authenticated in India. The Embassy of India, Addis Ababa is not authorised to attest original certificates unless these are authenticated by the MEA, New Delhi or its Branch Secretariats, in India. The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not accept documents attested as “ True copy” by the Embassy and insist on authentication of original documents. This makes it essential to get original certificates authenticated before departure from India.

It is therefore reiterated that Indian nationals residing in Ethiopia need to get their documents attested in India (MEA, New Delhi) or its Branch Secretariats, in India before applying for family resident permits or any other purposes which requires legalization of the document(s) by the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry.
